COLUMBUS, Ohio-Jaheym Cheeks, a Mansfield man, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of aggravated murder and murder in the death of 14-year-old Brylan Butcher from Chillicothe in 2022. Butcher was found deceased in an alley behind Eureka Avenue in the Hilltop neighborhood on March 5, 2022, after running away from a juvenile facility near Mansfield two weeks prior.
The indictment includes charges of aggravated murder, murder, and kidnapping against Cheeks, who is already serving time in state prison for burglary-related offenses in Richland County. Additionally, Justice Vereen pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter earlier this month for her involvement in Butcher’s death. Court documents revealed that Vereen was present when Butcher was shot and subsequently disposed of the murder weapon in Tennessee.
