LIMA, Ohio-Students from Lima’s West Middle School enjoyed a fishing expedition, thanks to the City of Lima and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. For many, it was their first experience fishing or riding in a boat. This annual event, organized by the City’s Park and Recreation and Utilities Departments, provides students with fishing rods, reels, and instruction. Seventh and eighth graders had the opportunity to ride on a small boat at Sertoma Pond, learning about boat safety and fishing regulations, including catch-and-release practices. Randy Kohli, a Lima Utilities security officer, emphasized the goal of teaching these life skills and encouraging students to engage in fishing beyond the event. Since 2018, the event has attracted around 600 kids each year.
