18-year-old Pleads Guilty in Middletown Crash that Killed Teen, Injured Others

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio-18-year-old Rebecca Kumar pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and three counts of vehicular assault in connection with a crash that killed 14-year-old Laith Masri and injured three others in Middletown. The crash occurred on March 23, 2024, when Kumar was driving 103 mph in a 35 mph zone. She lost control of the vehicle, a Cadillac Escalade, causing it to overturn and land in a wooded area. Laith Masri, a Lakota student, died in the crash, while his brother, cousin, and another child were injured, with Laith’s brother suffering permanent spinal cord damage.
