TOLEDO, Ohio-High school juniors and seniors in a Leadership Toledo program, YIPEE (Youth in Philanthropy Encouraging Excellence), raised $18,500 for nine local nonprofits in Toledo. They went through the grant-making process, including fundraising and evaluating grant applications. Twenty-four students from 15 high schools participated, distributing funds to organizations like Families for Fitness and the Traumatic Brain Injury Resource Center.
Since its inception in 1998, YIPEE has raised $392,000. Students, like Emily Boellner from Springfield High School, gained valuable insights and volunteered at organizations like Connecting Kids to Meals. OhioGuidestone’s Double ARC Center received $2,500 to aid in diagnosing fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, a process often not covered by insurance. YIPEE aims to educate young leaders about community needs and nonprofit work, offering a valuable learning experience for participants.
