COLUMBUS, Ohio-Pandemic-related learning disruptions have affected students’ fundamental developmental skills, such as sharing and using scissors, emphasizing the importance of utilizing summer months to bridge the gap. According to Education Week’s State of Teaching survey, a majority of pre-K through third-grade teachers noted increased difficulties in students’ listening, social interactions, and fine motor skills compared to five years ago.
Experts stress the significance of parental involvement during summer activities to equip children with essential skills for successful peer interactions. Khy Sline, KinderCare supervisor, highlighted the anticipated long-term implications of the pandemic on children’s development due to limited social interactions during lockdowns. The survey revealed that a high percentage of teachers reported challenges in students’ listening, following instructions, and social cooperation.
