BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-The Bowling Green Board of Education reluctantly approved the costly replacement of two boilers at old elementary buildings, totaling $333,884. This expenditure threatens funding earmarked for hiring personnel to assist students in catching up after the pandemic year, as well as installing cooling systems in non-air-conditioned schools.
Board members expressed frustration at the expense, considering it a necessity for building survival rather than improvement. Superintendent Francis Scruci and others shared the sentiment that the money could be better utilized elsewhere, with some suggesting it’s a consequence of the community’s failure to support initiatives like building a new elementary school.
