HB68 Trial: Ohio Parents Take Stand Asking State to Allow Gender-Affirming Care

COLUMBUS, Ohio-Ohio parents and doctors are actively opposing House Bill 68, a state legislation banning gender-affirming care for transgender youth, through testimony in a trial at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. The bill, which also restricts trans athletes from participating in sports aligning with their gender identity, has been temporarily halted by Republican Judge Michael Holbrook pending ongoing litigation. Earlier attempts to pass the bill included a veto by Governor Mike DeWine, who argued against state interference in parental decisions regarding children’s healthcare. Families and medical professionals, represented anonymously due to court rules, are advocating against the ban, highlighting the critical need for gender-affirming treatments like hormone therapy for transgender minors.
