Disability Rights Ohio Files Federal Lawsuit Over Special Education Violations at Warren County Educational Service Center

< 1 min read

Disability Rights Ohio (DRO) has filed a federal lawsuit against the Warren County Educational Service Center (WCESC) and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (DEW) for violations of special education laws. This lawsuit follows DRO’s unsuccessful attempts to resolve the issue through state-level complaints. The dispute began in 2022 when DRO filed a complaint, leading DEW to initially recognize multiple legal violations and mandate corrective actions, including compensatory education for affected students. However, DEW later reversed its findings under pressure from WCESC and local districts, failing to inform DRO or the families involved, which DRO argues deprived them of due process and necessary educational services.
