April 16th, 2024-KITTERING, Ohio-A Van Buren Middle School student in Kettering made a social media threat about blowing up a school bus as a joke, prompting aggravated menacing charges. Several students reported the threat, leading to police involvement.
Although the student admitted to the statement being a joke with no actual intent, charges will be pursued, and the case will be forwarded to Montgomery County Juvenile Court. The school district will also take disciplinary action according to policy. Principal Matthew Salyer urged students to report any concerning behavior and commended those who reported the threat promptly.
