‘A Weight Off my Back’: How Cincinnati Country Day’s no Cell Phone Policy is Impacting Students, Learning

< 1 min read

CINCINNATI, Ohio-Cincinnati Country Day School has implemented a policy requiring students to surrender their phones to advisers at the beginning of the day, retrieving them only after classes end. Despite initial skepticism, students have found the policy beneficial, reporting increased focus, participation, and genuine interactions with peers.

Some even noted academic improvements and reduced stress. Head of School Rob Zimmerman emphasized the importance of tailoring such policies to each community’s needs and advised other districts to embrace change swiftly. Despite the ban, teachers retain access to phones for emergency communication. The school plans to continue the policy into the next school year.
