PARKERSBURG, Ohio-Governor Jim Justice, accompanied by Babydog, visited Emerson Elementary to present a check of nearly $28 million from the West Virginia School Building Authority to Wood County Schools. The funds, combined with a $62 million bond sale approved by voters in 2022, will support various projects including auditorium renovations, athletic facility improvements, security upgrades, and the construction of three new elementary schools.
The crowd, including Emerson Elementary students, expressed excitement at meeting Babydog. Governor Justice encouraged students to surround themselves with positive influences and aim high. Wood County Schools Superintendent Christie Willis introduced principals benefiting from the funds, leading to enthusiastic responses from the audience. The event concluded with students singing “Country Roads” and Babydog receiving a Wood County Schools bandana. Wood County Board of Education President Justin Raber expressed gratitude to all involved in the funding and construction efforts.
