COLUMBUS, Ohio-A recent report by Groundwork Ohio highlights the significant challenges Ohio parents face in accessing affordable and available child care. Surveying 755 parents and caregivers with children under six, the study reveals widespread difficulties in finding and affording child care. Key findings include one-third of respondents struggling to find child care options, with nearly 60% finding current child care costs prohibitive. Despite reliance on the state’s Publicly Funded Child Care (PFCC) assistance, 40% faced difficulties finding facilities that accept it, and 25% of subsidy recipients found their copayments unaffordable. The study underscores the impact on parents, including job adjustments and stress levels, while advocating for legislative action to address these systemic issues in Ohio’s child care system.
