CCS Teachers Union Wants Board Member’s Resignation and Closure Plan Scrapped Over Memo

COLUMBUS, Ohio-The Columbus Education Association is demanding the resignation of Columbus City school board member Brandon Simmons and urging the district to abandon plans to close up to 20 schools. This call follows allegations that Simmons shared a divisive strategy document aimed at using racial dynamics to support school closures.

While Simmons claims the document was collective work, Board President Christina Vera stated it was the effort of one member. The union finds the plan abhorrent and is pushing for Simmons’ immediate resignation. Simmons, a 23-year-old elected last November, had previously been endorsed by district unions. The alleged document has drawn strong condemnation from community leaders like Columbus NAACP President Nana Watson, who called it offensive and disappointing.
