CONNEAUT, Ohio-Conneaut Elementary School has successfully funded a project to make its playground equipment more inclusive, ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, can engage in physical activity and social interaction. Principal Alyssa Karaffa led the effort, securing grants and donations for five new inclusive pieces of equipment and an accessibility path.
This initiative aims to promote physical, social, and emotional development for all PK-5 students, fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion. The new equipment includes items such as a Zoom-accessible glider, an accessible swing, a drum set, a bell panel, and a Cozy Cocoon for sensory needs. Funding from various organizations and support from BGCS employees were crucial for the project’s success. The goal is to complete the project before the 2024-2025 school year begins.
