April 3rd, 2024-BATAVIA, Ohio-Rachel Smith and Allison Vestring, former employees of West Clermont High School, are charged with unlawful restraint, a misdemeanor. They allegedly taped the hands of a 15-year-old student with Down syndrome and autism to his desk on March 1, preventing him from communicating.
The incident was recorded on video, showing the student begging for help. Smith and Vestring showed the video to other faculty members, leading to their arrest. They claimed it was done as a joke, not as punishment. Both are no longer employed by the school. Smith was released on her own recognizance with orders not to have contact with the student or his family.
