AKRON, Ohio-Akron Public Schools is converting Robinson Community Learning Center from an elementary to a high school, renamed as the National Inventors Hall of Fame STEM High School. The renovation costs have surged to $2.18 million due to tight timelines and the complexity of converting an elementary school into a specialty high school.
This move comes after the district failed to reach a cost-effective agreement with the University of Akron to house the STEM High School. Despite the increased expense, this option remains the most economical and addresses the issue of excess space in elementary schools. The urgency of the project allowed for expedited bidding and selection of Cavanaugh Building Corporation for the renovation. The school board approved the resolution without questioning the escalated costs.
