COLUMBUS, Ohio-Columbus City Schools (CCS) has implemented a new resolution allowing them to declare transportation for charter and private school students “impractical” based on factors such as distance and the number of students needing transportation. This decision means that CCS may not provide transportation for some students this school year. The resolution has caused frustration among families and charter school leaders. Andy Boy, CEO of United Schools Network, which operates charter schools in Columbus, reported that over 60 students lack reliable transportation due to this change and were only notified in early August. In response, United Schools has hired a private transportation company, though this is financially challenging. CCS allows families to request mediation or challenge the impracticality declaration, which could lead to the district either providing transportation or compensating families for the lack of service.
