Sheriff: Student Charged with Assaulting Officer After Incident that Prompted Lockdown

NEW RICHMOND, Ohio-New Richmond High School in Clermont County went into a brief soft lockdown after a ninth-grade student became combative with staff around 11 a.m. The 14-year-old student was found punching lockers and made threats against the school resource officer (SRO), eventually attempting to punch the SRO. The student was taken into custody and suffered minor injuries during the incident. Following the altercation, the student was transported to Children’s Hospital for a mental health evaluation. The lockdown was lifted by 11:30 a.m., and classes resumed. The student has been charged with felony assault on a police officer and suspended pending further disciplinary action.
