An Akron man and woman were sentenced each to 24 to 28 years in prison for severely starving and abusing a child in their care, according to the Summit County Prosecutors’ Office. The abuse reportedly happened between 2020 and 2024. 43-year-old Angela Smith and 48-year-old Jason Smith both pleaded no contest to the allegations in July.
