Cleveland Schools Join Growing Cohort of Districts Banning Cell Phones to Boost Student Learning

CLEVELAND, Ohio-Starting this academic year, all Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) schools will implement a cell-phone-free policy to boost student learning and academic performance. The district will use secure storage solutions, including Yondr pouches, to keep phones stored and inaccessible during school hours. Students will receive these pouches upon arrival, and they must keep them in their backpacks. In case of emergencies, parents should contact the school’s main office. The policy aligns with Ohio House Bill 250, which mandates schools to limit phone use. Similar policies have been positively received in other districts, such as Parma City Schools and Akron Public Schools, where Yondr pouches have improved behavior and classroom engagement. For more details, parents should reach out to their child’s school.
