MADISON, Ohio-Tara Soederstrom, a teacher at Madison Middle School, has reached the top 10 in Reader’s Digest’s America’s Favorite Teacher Contest. She emphasizes the joy of witnessing students’ breakthrough moments in learning. The winner of the contest will receive $25,000, a trip to Hawaii, and feature in the magazine.
Apart from teaching math, Soederstrom leads a Grief Group at the school to support students affected by loss. If she wins, she plans to use part of the prize money to buy crafts supplies for the Grief Group and potentially organize a field trip for them. Voting for the top five finalists ends on April 25 at 7 p.m.
