WESTERVILLE, Ohio-Max Shawver, a former player and assistant coach at Westerville Central, is set to become the head coach of the boys basketball program pending school board approval. He will succeed Kevin Martin, who stepped down after six seasons. Shawver, who teaches government and psychology at Central, credits Martin as a mentor and plans to maintain the program’s standards.
A graduate of Central, Shawver played basketball and football before attending Ashland University. He returned to Central as an assistant coach in 2018 and later coached the Johnstown boys program for two seasons. Shawver’s appointment follows a successful tenure under Martin, during which the team achieved significant milestones, including winning a district championship in 2020 and reaching the state final in 2021. Martin expressed confidence in Shawver’s ability to lead the program, citing his work ethic and passion for success.
