AKRON, Ohio-The Akron Board of Education faced strong opposition from students, parents, and teachers at a meeting where they approved a restructuring plan that included layoffs. Parents expressed concern over the impact on student outcomes and confidence in Akron Public Schools.

Students and teachers passionately defended their educators, with some staging a walkout and others speaking out at the meeting. The Akron Teachers Association vowed not to be silenced, accusing the district of union busting.
