CINCINNATI, Ohio-Cincinnati Public Schools faced a $13.7 million budget gap, prompting discussions on eliminating open positions in elementary schools. The district’s treasurer, Jennifer Wagner, reported that the deficit had been reduced to $9.78 million.
The cuts so far included eliminating 26 open elementary school positions and adjusting how paraprofessionals and special education positions are budgeted. A task force comprising union leaders and administration is exploring other options, such as adjusting vendor contracts under $200,000 and identifying more vacancies to postpone hiring. The focus is on avoiding cuts that negatively impact students’ education or career opportunities.
