TOLEDO, Ohio-Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz and Police Chief Michael Troendle discussed the city’s crime statistics for early 2024, revealing improvements in four of six major crime categories. However, homicides and shootings increased by 26.7% and 5.8%, respectively. Chief Troendle highlighted the importance of addressing youth involvement in crime, suggesting that keeping young people off the streets could help reduce violence. Local organizations, like Young Men and Women For Change led by Shawn Mahone, are actively working to intervene and redirect youth behavior. The organization offers programs such as “Behavior Modification Bootcamp” and “Parent Accountability Program” to promote accountability and positive change.
