16-Year-Old Faces Attempted Murder Charge for Alleged Involvement in Mason Attack

< 1 min read

MASON, Ohio-Warren County prosecutors have upgraded charges against a 16-year-old Colerain Township girl, making her the youngest of six people charged in a roadside assault that occurred in Mason in August. The assault, captured on video, shows several individuals using bats to beat a man on the ground. The teenager now faces an attempted murder charge, and prosecutors are seeking to transfer her case to adult court. During a court appearance, her attorney argued that she is innocent and emphasized her status as a straight-A student with no prior criminal record. He claimed she was unaware that others would attack the victim when she went to retrieve personal items, after the victim had allegedly assaulted her mother earlier that day. The magistrate denied the defense’s request for her release, and a hearing will be scheduled to determine whether the case will be moved to adult court. The adults involved have yet to face grand jury proceedings, which may lead to more serious charges. The victim continues to suffer from physical and emotional pain.
