Hudson Schools Expand Program Offering Free Food to Families in Need Through New Partnership

< 1 min read

HUDSON, Ohio-Hudson City Schools’ Backpack Buddies program will begin offering weekly food and toiletries to students in need, thanks to a new partnership with the Ben Curtis Foundation. A high school student announced this update at a Board of Education meeting, explaining that the program supports families struggling to provide food. Launched in 2013 by a student initiative, Backpack Buddies has expanded with the help of the student government, which oversees food collection and funding. The new collaboration with the Ben Curtis Foundation’s Birdie Bag program aims to address rising food costs through the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. The program is available to families qualifying for free and reduced lunch, providing six meals and four snacks of non-perishable food each week.
