Akron Teen Pleads Guilty to Charge Connected with Shooting Gas Station Employee

< 1 min read

AKRON, Ohio-Joseph Johnson, a 17-year-old accused of shooting an Akron gas station employee during a robbery, has reached a plea deal ahead of jury selection. Johnson will plead guilty to one count of aggravated robbery with a gun specification, a first-degree felony. His sentencing is scheduled for December 12. The case stems from a January 25 incident, where Johnson allegedly stole a tip jar from a Gas & Save, and when the employee, Ravindra Airy, followed him, Johnson shot him. Airy, who suffered gunshot wounds, was transported to the hospital and is expected to face lifelong complications. Johnson fled the scene but was later captured on February 6 by Akron police and the U.S. Marshals.
