The song is called “Raise ‘em up,” and it’s about helping out the next generation. “I wrote that song as a hope that we cannot change the world, so to speak, but we can change our families. We can raise our children to have values that will actually improve the human race and not divide us,” said songwriter Laurie Swyers. Swyers and Mary Dick are known as the duo “New Moon.” They performed their original song in front of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in the Point Place neighborhood of Toledo. That’s where a gathering called “Raise Up Our Youth” came together to cap off Labor Day.
