April 12th, 2024-OAKWOOD, Ohio-Oakwood High School, along with Oakwood Junior High School and Lange School, has been designated as Ohio Purple Star schools, joining Smith Elementary and Harman School in receiving this recognition. The Purple Star designation reflects a significant commitment to serving military-connected students and families, according to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
Superintendent Neil Gupta expressed pride in the efforts of staff and school teams in earning this designation, emphasizing the importance of supporting military students and families as they transition to Oakwood schools. The designation involves completing required activities, including appointing a school-based staff person as a liaison for military families and providing supports throughout the school community. Oakwood schools currently support 260 military students and their families.
