CINCINNATI, Ohio-Francesca, a 6-month-old baby, has been at Children’s Hospital since she was seven days old due to a heart condition that requires a new heart. Doctors discovered that her heart was not pumping blood properly, leading to her needing a ventricular assist device (VAD) called a Berlin Heart.
Despite awaiting a heart transplant, Francesca is thriving on the VAD and is able to engage in activities like playing and singing. Her mother, Caitlin Gangi Rost, expresses gratitude for the support of the medical team and community, and eagerly anticipates Francesca’s return home after receiving a new heart.
