Practicing School Bus Safety as Students Head Back to School

< 1 min read

TOLEDO, Ohio-With schools back in session, school buses are again on the road, prompting reminders for drivers to prioritize safety. Officials stress the importance of obeying traffic laws, particularly stopping when a bus’s red lights are on. Drivers should be especially cautious around school buses, which carry children and may slow down commutes. On roads with four or more lanes, traffic moving in the opposite direction is not required to stop for a bus, though caution is still advised. Since 2019, there have been numerous bus-related crashes and citations for violations in Lucas County. Schools are teaching students about the “danger zone” around buses to enhance safety. Drivers are encouraged to plan for potential delays and exercise patience as school buses return to the roadways.
