The last policy update was in 2017, and officials aim to balance educational focus with safety concerns regarding emergency communication. Vice President Kelley Casper noted that many parents want data-driven decisions to minimize emotional influence. The meeting revealed varied opinions: some parents appreciate emergency access through phones, while others support teachers collecting phones to reduce distractions. Consistency across schools and flexibility for individual teachers were also discussed. The district previously conducted an online survey with 363 responses, highlighting concerns about distractions, social media bullying, and the need for clear, consistent policies. District officials plan to use feedback from the forum and survey to refine the cell phone policy to better support students, staff, and families.
