April 5th, 2024-ATHENS, Ohio-Athens County Children Services is hosting two events this month: their annual pinwheel display for Child Abuse Prevention Month and Kidfest 2024. Kidfest will take place at Ohio University’s Walter Fieldhouse on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring booths from various children-related organizations and activities such as a photo booth, play areas, batting cages, face painting, crafts, and a Pinewood Derby. Admission is $3 at the door, with free parking available.
Additionally, throughout April, the agency’s pinwheel display near the US 33 interchange serves as a reminder of Child Abuse Prevention Month, with each pinwheel representing a referral of child abuse or neglect in 2023. The agency received 2,444 referrals last year. Volunteers and staff create each metal pinwheel from recycled soda cans.
