COLUMBUS, Ohio-In the second day of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, 103 out of the 148 spellers who advanced to the quarterfinals were eliminated. Participants left the stage one after another in disappointment.
For instance, 13-year-old Zachary Daniel Yeager from Chippewa Junior/Senior High School stumbled on “dialypetalous” in the fourth round, while 12-year-old Kendall Jo Mehl from Otsego Junior High School was ousted for misspelling “nisus.”
