MEDINA, Ohio-The Medina City School District, facing budget challenges after recent levy failures, may need to make further cuts if an upcoming levy in November is unsuccessful. Assistant Superintendent Kristine Quallich presented pay-to-participate options during a recent Board of Education meeting.
Currently, fees are $330 for high school students, with a proposed increase to $660 and elimination of the family cap. Another option, modeled after Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District, bases fees on each sport’s expenditures, aiming for a 50/50 split between district and family costs. Administrators prefer this option for its fairness and flexibility, though it would require annual adjustments.
