Cincinnati Public Schools Tightens Student Cellphone Policy, Pursues Yondr Pouches

< 1 min read

CINCINNATI, Ohio-Cincinnati Public Schools is considering implementing cellphone pouches for every student district-wide, following a successful pilot program at Hughes STEM High School. With these Yondr pouches, students are unable to access their phones during the school day, providing a solution to concerns about cellphone use’s impact on learning and mental health.

While individual principals will decide whether to adopt the pouches, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine encourages cellphone bans in schools statewide. Some schools, like Akron Public Schools, have already adopted this measure. While Cincinnati Country Day School implemented a strict no-cell phone policy with positive feedback, Cincinnati Public Schools isn’t mandating a district-wide cellphone ban but is allowing principals to implement such measures based on the success of the Hughes pilot program.
