BG Schools Gets Request for List of District’s Library Books

< 1 min read

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio-Bowling Green City Schools received a request for a list of all books in their libraries, which was fulfilled without knowledge of the requester’s identity or purpose. This has sparked concerns among citizens due to the increasing trend of book bans nationwide. Despite the standing-room-only attendance at a recent board of education meeting, the topic wasn’t addressed.

Janet Parks, president of the League of Women Voters in Bowling Green, expressed opposition to book banning efforts. Reports by the American Library Association and PEN America indicate a rise in attempts to ban books from school libraries, particularly those featuring LGBTQ+ and characters of color. Last year, over 1,600 book titles were banned across 32 states, primarily driven by right-wing groups advocating censorship.
