SALINEVILLE, Ohio-Two students from Southern Local Elementary School received bicycles as rewards for their outstanding efforts during the school year. Remmi Rector, a second-grader, was given a new Diamondback Viper bicycle, while fifth-grader Grant Utt received a refurbished 1987 Dyno D-Tour freestyle bike, customized in the school’s blue-and-yellow colors with the district’s logo.
The selection was part of the school’s Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative, where students were nominated based on academic achievement and positive behavior. The bikes were presented during an awards assembly on May 29, with the names drawn by Josh Manist’s son, Zane. Future initiatives may involve C.A.R.E.S. cards to increase student participation and recognition.
