Some Strongsville Students to have Mandatory Drug Testing, School District Says

STRONGVILLE, Ohio-The Strongsville City School District has introduced a new mandatory drug testing policy for students in grades 6-12 involved in sports, extracurricular activities, or with driving privileges. Testing will be conducted by Great Lakes Biomedical for substances like THC, alcohol, and nicotine. Students who test positive can opt into a diversion program for education and support, or face consequences such as losing driving privileges or activity participation. However, the policy ensures that positive test results will not lead to suspension, expulsion, or academic penalties. The goal is to support students and address rising substance use while maintaining privacy and focusing on healthier choices.
