March 22nd,2024-TOLEDO, Ohio-A social worker employed at Emmanuel Christian Schools in Toledo was terminated after allegations surfaced that she engaged in inappropriate phone and text conversations with a student outside of school hours. Alan Sherban, the Head of Schools, notified parents through a letter on February 27, 2024, stating that the staff member had been in frequent contact with a student without parental consent, and the content of their conversations was deemed highly inappropriate. Although the individual was immediately removed from interacting with students, it was revealed that other students might have been involved in similar conversations. Sherban emphasized that the school does not endorse communication between staff and students outside of specific circumstances, such as athletic logistics. Concerns were raised by an anonymous parent regarding the school’s transparency and the timing of their response. The social worker was contracted through the Educational Service Center of Lake Erie West, and Emmanuel Christian’s principal informed the organization about the situation on February 21, 2024.
